EP #058: How to Make Your LinkedIn Profile Mobile-Friendly
More than 70% of LinkedIn users view profiles on their phones.
If your profile isn’t optimized for mobile, you’re losing out on potential connections, credibility, and business opportunities.
Here’s how to format your LinkedIn profile so it grabs attention—even on a small screen.
Why Mobile Optimization Matters
Think about how you use LinkedIn.
You’re scrolling between meetings. Checking profiles in a coffee line. Clicking on someone’s name after they comment on a post.
Most people spend less than 7 seconds scanning a profile before deciding if it’s worth their time.
If your profile is a wall of text or hard to skim, they won’t read it.
That’s why formatting matters.
The “Skimmability” Rule—How to Format for Maximum Impact
Your LinkedIn profile should pass the 3-second test.
A quick scroll should immediately show:
✔️ Who you are (Headline & About section)
✔️ What you do (Experience & Featured section)
✔️ Why someone should connect with you
The key to mobile-friendly formatting? Short paragraphs, clear sections, and easy-to-read bullets.
1️⃣ Optimize Your Headline for Instant Clarity
Your headline is one of the first things people see.
💡 Instead of this 👎:
“Partner at Spencer Stewart, Executive Search & Leadership Consultant.”
✅ Try this instead 👍:
“I help PE & Family Offices recruit top leadership talent. | Partner @ Spencer Stewart.”
👉 Why this works: It’s specific, client-focused, and easy to scan.
2️⃣ Break Up Your “About” Section
Your About section is NOT a place for long paragraphs.
Best practices for mobile readability:
✔️ Use short sentences (1-2 lines max).
✔️ Add line breaks between every 2-3 sentences.
✔️ Use bold or all caps (via text formatting tools) for key points.
✔️ Highlight credibility markers (years of experience, industries, client results).
💡 Example of a Mobile-Friendly About Section:
I’m the CEO and Founder of Executive Presence, where we help companies build trust and awareness through executive thought leadership on LinkedIn.
In under three years, I’ve bootstrapped Executive Presence to over $3M in ARR, interviewed 750+ CEOs, and helped 200+ leaders build a powerful LinkedIn presence.

We turn leaders into thought leaders. Most CEOs have networks of people who know, like, and trust them—but aren’t top-of-mind. We help clients stay relevant within their network.
As experts in their fields, CEOs want to be seen as the thought leader in their space. We provide the strategy and full support to help them gain credibility and visibility online.
Our fully managed LinkedIn presence for CEOs and top executives helps clients:
➤ Hire
➤ Fundraise
➤ Build a brand
➤ Create a category

👉 Notice: Easy to skim. Short, high-impact statements. Clear next step.
3️⃣ Use Bullet Points in Your Experience Section
Most Experience sections are blocks of text. That’s a mistake.
On mobile, bullet points = easier to read.
💡 Instead of this 👎:
“I lead a team of executive search professionals focused on talent acquisition and leadership consulting for private equity and family office clients. My expertise includes CEO succession planning, leadership development, and board advisory services.”
✅ Try this instead 👍:
🔹 Partner | Spencer Stewart (2022 - Present)
Helping PE & Family Offices recruit top leadership talent.
✔️ Advised 50+ PE-backed companies on leadership hiring
✔️ Placed 150+ executives in board and C-suite roles
✔️ 10+ years in executive search & leadership strategy
👉 Why this works: It’s concise, credibility-driven, and easy to skim.
The 3 Biggest Formatting Mistakes Executives Make
🚫 1. Big Blocks of Text
• People won’t read paragraphs.
• Instead, use line breaks, bullets, and short sentences.
🚫 2. Overly Generic Headlines
• “Partner at XYZ” doesn’t tell people what you do.
• Instead, use clear positioning (e.g., “I help X do Y”).
🚫 3. No Featured Section
• The Featured section is prime real estate.
• Add articles, media, or case studies to boost credibility.
Final Thoughts: Make Your Profile Work on Mobile
🔹 Keep it concise.
🔹 Make it skimmable.
🔹 Use formatting (bullets, line breaks, bold text) to boost readability.
Your LinkedIn profile isn’t just a digital resume—it’s your personal brand.
A few small tweaks can increase profile views, inbound opportunities, and credibility.
