EP #057: LinkedIn Profiles That Sell—The Experience Section Blueprint

Most executives treat their LinkedIn Experience section like a boring resume.

❌ List of job titles
❌ Bullet points with generic responsibilities
❌ No personality, no credibility-building, no engagement

Your LinkedIn profile isn’t a job application. It’s a sales page—for you, your expertise, and your business.

Here’s how to transform your Experience section into a powerful tool that attracts opportunities and builds authority.

Why Your Experience Section Should Go Beyond a Resume

Most people skim through profiles in under 7 seconds. That means your Experience section needs to sell your expertise fast.

When optimized, it can:
✔️ Build instant credibility
✔️ Position you as an industry authority
✔️ Make it clear why people should work with you
✔️ Drive more inbound leads

The key? Tell a compelling story—not just list past jobs.

How to Craft a High-Impact LinkedIn Experience Section

Here’s a simple 3-part framework to make your Experience section work for you (not against you).

1️⃣ Start with a Strong Opening Line

The first 1-2 sentences should clearly describe your impact.

💡 Instead of this 👎:
“CEO at Executive Presence. Responsible for company growth and operations.”

✅ Try this instead 👍:
“I help CEOs establish their thought leadership on LinkedIn, turning their expertise into a powerful business asset. Since founding Executive Presence, I’ve worked with 200+ CEOs and analyzed over 25,000 LinkedIn posts.”

👉 Why this works: It’s clear, engaging, and credibility-building.

2️⃣ Highlight Key Wins (Not Just Responsibilities)

People don’t care what you were responsible for. They care about your impact.

💡 Instead of this 👎:
“Managed a team of 10 sales reps and oversaw client relationships.”

✅ Try this instead 👍:
“Led a 10-person sales team that generated $5M in new revenue in 2023. Expanded key accounts by 35% through a strategic LinkedIn content approach.”

👉 Why this works: It focuses on results, not just job duties.

💡 Use numbers & credibility markers:
✔️ Years of experience (e.g., “15+ years in executive coaching”)
✔️ Big-name clients or industries (e.g., “Worked with Fortune 500 CEOs”)
✔️ Results-driven metrics (e.g., “Helped companies grow their LinkedIn following by 300%”)

3️⃣ Format for Readability & Engagement

Most LinkedIn profiles are blocks of text. That’s a problem because people don’t read—they skim.

Use these formatting hacks to make your Experience section stand out:
✔️ Break up long paragraphs (2-3 sentences max)
✔️ Use bullet points for key highlights
✔️ Add bolded or ALL CAPS for emphasis (LinkedIn doesn’t have bold, but you can copy from a text formatter)
✔️ Incorporate media (e.g., links to case studies, featured articles, or key projects)

💡 Example of a High-Impact Experience Section Format:
🔹 CEO | Executive Presence (2022 - Present)
Helping CEOs turn LinkedIn into a business growth engine.

🚀 Key Wins:
✔️ Partnered with 200+ CEOs to build LinkedIn thought leadership
✔️ Bootstrapped from $0 to $3,000,000 in ARR in <30 months
✔️ Analyzed 25,000+ LinkedIn posts to refine high-impact strategies
✔️ Helped clients increase inbound leads by 3-5x

Final Thoughts: Make Your Experience Section Work for You

Your LinkedIn Experience section isn’t just about your past. It’s about:
✅ Why people should trust you
✅ What makes you different
✅ How you help companies, clients, or teams succeed

A few small tweaks can boost your credibility, engagement, and inbound opportunities.
