EP #039: How to Stay Top of Mind Without Being Annoying
Welcome back to my newsletter series on mastering LinkedIn. Today, let’s talk about a common concern: How do you stay visible on LinkedIn without feeling like you’re over-posting or coming across as self-promotional?
I hear this all the time from executives. They worry about being “too much.” But the reality? Most people on LinkedIn aren’t seeing all of your posts—maybe 5-10% of your network will see any given post. The real problem isn’t posting too much; it’s posting too little.
🔹 The Key to Staying Top of Mind
The goal is simple: when your ideal clients, partners, or investors think about your industry, your name should come to mind first. Here’s how to do that without being annoying:
✅ 1. Post 1-5x Per Week (and Stay Consistent)
The biggest mistake I see is inconsistency—posting three times in a week, then disappearing for months. Instead, find a sustainable rhythm and stick to it. Even once a week is better than nothing.
✅ 2. Lead With Value, Not Self-Promotion
80% of your posts should be about teaching, helping, or inspiring your audience—not selling to them. A simple framework:
Share insights from your experience
Explain common mistakes and how to avoid them
Highlight trends you’re seeing in your industry
✅ 3. Rotate Between 4 Types of Content
To keep things fresh, mix up your content with:
1️⃣ Industry insights – Share trends, research, or a hot take
2️⃣ Personal stories – Make your expertise relatable
3️⃣ Client lessons – Share insights (without selling)
4️⃣ Engagement posts – Ask your audience a thought-provoking question
✅ 4. Make Your Posts Skimmable
People scroll quickly. Use:
✔ Short paragraphs
✔ Line breaks
✔ Bullet points (like these!)
✅ 5. Remember: Most People Are Lurkers
Many of your most important connections will never like or comment on your posts—but they’re watching. I’ve had CEOs reach out after months of silently following my content. The key? Keep showing up.
🚀 Action Step:
Pick one of the four content types above and schedule your next LinkedIn post today.
